History and examination
The doctor first asks about your symptoms, how long they have lasted, any coexisting conditions and previous treatment.
They then carry out an examination appropriate to the specialty and the problems you have reported.
Plan for what comes next
At the end of the appointment the doctor discusses the initial assessment, possible further tests and a treatment plan.
You are told when a follow-up is needed and what to look out for after the appointment.
